Professional Heat Press Instructions for DTF Transfers

Getting professional results is easy when you follow the proper heat press settings. Our high-quality DTF transfers are designed to produce vibrant colors, soft prints, and long-lasting durability on a wide range of fabrics.

Important: These settings are general recommendations and may vary depending on your heat press, garment type, and transfer film. Always test on a sample garment when possible.

Recommended Heat Press Settings

Setting Recommendation
Temperature 300–315°F (149–157°C)
Pressure Medium to Firm
Press Time 10–15 Seconds
Peel Cold Peel (or follow the instructions included with your transfer if different)
Final Press 5–10 Seconds

Step 1 – Prepare Your Garment

Before applying your transfer:

  • Preheat your press to the recommended temperature.
  • Remove wrinkles by pre-pressing the garment for 3–5 seconds.
  • Make sure the garment is clean, dry, and lint-free.
  • Use a lint roller on cotton garments if needed.

Step 2 – Position Your Transfer

  • Place the transfer design side up on the garment.
  • Ensure it is straight and centered.
  • Use alignment tools or rulers for accurate placement.

Step 3 – Apply Heat

Press using:

  • Temperature: 300–315°F
  • Pressure: Medium to Firm
  • Time: 10–15 seconds

Avoid opening the press before the timer has finished.

Step 4 – Peel the Film

Allow the transfer to cool completely before peeling.

  • Cold Peel: Wait until the transfer is cool to the touch, then peel the film slowly and smoothly.
  • If your transfer includes different instructions, follow those instead.

Step 5 – Final Press

After removing the film:

  • Cover the design with parchment paper, kraft paper, or a Teflon sheet.
  • Press again for 5–10 seconds using the same temperature and pressure.

This final press helps:

  • Improve durability
  • Enhance the finish
  • Increase adhesion
  • Create a softer feel

Garment Care Instructions

To help your printed garment last longer:

  • ✔ Wait 24 hours before the first wash.
  • ✔ Turn garments inside out before washing.
  • ✔ Wash in cold or warm water with a mild detergent.
  • ✔ Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry.
  • ✔ Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals.
  • ✔ Do not dry clean unless the garment manufacturer recommends it.
  • ✔ If ironing is necessary, turn the garment inside out or place a protective cloth over the design. Never iron directly on the transfer.

Common Pressing Issues & Solutions

Transfer isn't sticking

  • Increase pressure slightly.
  • Verify your press is reaching the correct temperature.
  • Increase press time by 1–2 seconds if needed.

Edges lifting

  • Perform the recommended final press.
  • Make sure you're using firm, even pressure.

Film is difficult to peel

  • Allow the transfer to cool completely before peeling.
  • Peel slowly at a low angle.

Design looks dull

  • Check that your press temperature is accurate.
  • Complete the final press for a smoother finish.
